OKB is a cryptocurrency issued by the OK Blockchain Foundation and the Malta-based crypto exchange OKEx. This exchange ranks among the largest globally, placing third in liquidity and fourth in trading volume, while offering a wide range of trading pairs. Although OKEx shares many similarities with the major exchange Binance, there are several notable differences. For instance, OKEx provides its own cloud mining service and places a stronger emphasis on options trading, whereas Binance focuses on delivering a broad spectrum of crypto services worldwide.
OKB serves as the utility token of OKEx, allowing users to access exclusive platform features. It is used for calculating and paying trading fees, participating in platform governance and voting, as well as rewarding users who hold the token.
Since its launch in 2017, OKEx has grown into a leading global trading platform. It was introduced in spring 2017 as an extension of the earlier OKCoin platform, which has operated since 2013 in China. While OKCoin now specializes in fiat-to-crypto exchange, OKEx concentrates on crypto-to-crypto trading and offers an integrated API for algorithmic trading. Additionally, the platform provides a multi-currency wallet and supports margin trading functionality.
