UNUS SED LEO is a utility token designed for use across the iFinex digital ecosystem, the corporate group behind Bitfinex and Tether. Its main purpose is to reduce costs tied to trading, lending, and other centralized finance (CeFi) services available to Bitfinex users. In practical terms, the more LEO tokens a trader holds on Bitfinex, the bigger the fee reductions and platform-related benefits they can access. The project also provides the LEO Transparency Dashboard, allowing users to monitor key data such as the token burn process and supply metrics. UNUS SED LEO and its ERC-20-based token standard went live in May 2019, created to improve the overall trading and lending ecosystem on Bitfinex. Following The Merge, transactions involving LEO on the Ethereum blockchain are now secured through a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus model.
