Dogecoin (DOGE)
Asset ID: 10
Dogecoin (DOGE) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency launched in 2013 as a fun and approachable alternative to Bitcoin. Drawing inspiration from the viral “Doge” Shiba Inu meme, it quickly built a passionate and lighthearted community, helping it gain visibility in mainstream culture.
Created by software engineers Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus, Dogecoin aimed to make cryptocurrency easier for everyday users. At that time, Bitcoin mining had become more complex and required significant resources. By using the Scrypt algorithm and taking cues from Litecoin, Dogecoin provided a more accessible and user-friendly entry point into the crypto space.
In contrast to Bitcoin’s limited supply, Dogecoin follows an inflationary model, issuing 10,000 new DOGE every minute with no maximum cap. While this reduces its appeal as a store of value, it makes DOGE well-suited for tipping, donations, and small transactions. At the time of writing, approximately 150.85 billion DOGE are in circulation.
Over the years, Dogecoin has evolved beyond its meme beginnings. Backed by a dedicated community and boosted by endorsements from figures like Tesla CEO Elon Musk, it has become one of the most widely recognized cryptocurrencies globally.
