Aave is a decentralized lending protocol originally developed on the Ethereum blockchain after its launch in 2017. The Switzerland-based project enables decentralized finance (DeFi) borrowing and lending of digital assets across Ethereum, Polygon, and Avalanche networks.
Liquidity on Aave is supplied in a fully decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) system. Following Ethereum’s transition to Proof-of-Stake (The Merge), Aave’s native token AAVE also operates within PoS-based validation environments.
Beyond trading and staking, AAVE mainly serves as a governance token, allowing holders to vote on protocol decisions such as listing new assets in liquidity pools and other DeFi-related updates.
